It's all about the "bunny"

I went coursing this weekend in Auburn. While my human was not able to take photos because I was keeping her rather busy with chasing the "bunny" and with getting off leash a couple of times, ( I did return when called but I just had to nose the bunny first). I did really good for being 16 months old. I came in 4th both days and really had fun playing with some of my other running friends like the afghans, whippets and met some really nice greyhounds. The weather was great, sunny but cold. And we all had a great time. My human got to chat with other humans about their dogs and swap stories of what mischief we all can get into if not kept busy. Hey...we have to be working otherwise we get bored. Well, now with the two days of running this weekend, I get my "SC" title. So I can start to run in AFSA trials as well as continue with AKC trials. I can't wait...So many plastic bunnies so little time. If you want to see what it's like to course check out the "Get the bunny" video on the right side of the page. Below are photos of my friends I met in Phoenix while running. All are great runners and nice dogs.

More from the Homol'ovi ruins

Homol'ovi ruins

Just outside of Winslow AZ lies the Homol'ovi ruins.

Homolovi or Homol'ovi (Hopi spelling of the word) is a Hopi word meaning "Place of the Little Hills". It has also been translated as "Place where the land slopes down to the river". It is the traditional Hopi name for the Winslow, Arizona area and was chosen as the name of Homol'ovi Ruins State Park. The park is located northeast of Winslow and is a little over a mile north of I-40 on SR87.
The Homolo'ovi cluster of archaeological sites includes four main pueblo ruins and over 340 smaller archaeological sites. The main habitation period was from about 1250-1400 AD. However, there were earlier habitation periods starting around 600AD. There are signs of people passing through the area that are 9000-11000 years old. These were hunter-gatherers and may also have been utilizing the rich river cobble deposits containing chert (flint).
The people of the 1250-1400AD period were Hisat'sinom (Anasazi) with close ties to the Hopi people. They were farming the rich flood plains and growing corn, beans, squash, and cotton. They were successful traders and high status artifacts are found at Homol'ovi, including polychrome pottery, copper bells from Mexico, sea shells, and the skeletons of parrots.
Archaeologists believe that the people farmed this area when drought controlled the flooding of the Little Colorado River. At the end of the drought in about 1400AD, frequent flooding made it impossible to farm the flood plain, so the people moved north, joining the people living on the Hopi Mesas. These are the ancestors of the Hopi people of today.
Approximately 20 Hopi clans trace their migration routes through Homol'ovi.

A long strange trip...

So did you all miss us? My human and I went on vacation to the southwest and areas in between. LOTS of stops to see and smell things. And LOTS of sun, sand, and on the return...surf as we came back up the Oregon coast. My human will be adding photos of our trip. I did get to run in a coursing trial in Gilbert AZ. There were a lot of big dogs there and I did come in 3rd. It was warm but thankfully we ran in the morning when it was cooler, and under 80 degrees. My human could not get any photos of me during the coursing trial as she was busy with trying to catch me at the end of the course. But there are lots of photos of other friends running. Those will be in further posts. So in the mean time...enjoy our trip.
